About 12 Angry Men

The defense and the prosecution have rested and the jury is filing into the jury room to decide if a young Spanish-American is guilty or innocent of murdering his father. What begins as an open and shut case soon becomes a mini-drama of each of the jurors' prejudices and preconceptions about the trial, the accused, and each other.

Our take on 12 Angry Men

Sidney Lumet's 1957 debut unfolds almost entirely in one sweltering jury room, where a lone holdout forces eleven men to re-examine an open-and-shut murder verdict. It's a masterclass in tension built from dialogue, character and moral pressure rather than incident — a study of prejudice, doubt and conscience. If its claustrophobic, conversation-driven suspense gripped you, seek out courtroom and ensemble dramas that trust the audience to weigh the evidence alongside the characters.
