Our take on Aquaman

James Wan's 2018 fantasy adventure follows Arthur Curry, born of a human father and an Atlantean mother, as he's pulled toward a destiny he never asked for and made to prove whether he's worthy of a throne beneath the sea. Wan leans into maximalist spectacle, building a luminous, densely imagined underwater world of warring kingdoms and outsized creatures, all rendered in saturated color. It's a big, sincere superhero origin more interested in wonder and momentum than restraint, mixing quest structure with broad humor and huge set pieces. Ideal for viewers who want their comic-book fantasy loud, colorful, and unabashedly grand, and don't mind spectacle taking the wheel.
