Stephen Norrington's 1998 action-horror hybrid helped drag comic-book cinema toward a darker, harder edge years before the genre boom. Blade, the half-vampire, half-mortal "Daywalker," appoints himself humanity's protector against an underground army of vampires hiding within modern society. The film blends martial-arts choreography, techno-club energy and creature-feature grotesquerie into something more visceral than the superhero norm of its era. It suits viewers who like their action stylish, violent and unapologetically pulpy, and who enjoy a stoic antihero carving through the undead. If you want an origin point for gritty comic adaptations, or simply a lean vampire actioner with attitude, this remains a satisfyingly bloody ride.
