Brian De Palma's 1993 crime drama follows Carlito Brigante, newly free after years behind bars and determined to leave his criminal past for good. But the pull of New York City's underworld proves relentless, and the ex-con finds himself dragged back toward the life he swore off. It's a melancholy, elegantly staged story about a man trying to outrun who he was, shadowed by the sense that his fate may already be sealed.
