Our take on Collateral

Michael Mann's 2004 crime thriller confines most of its tension to a single Los Angeles night. Cab driver Max picks up a man offering six hundred dollars to be driven around town, but the easy money curdles when Max realizes his passenger is an assassin working through a list. Mann uses the city's after-dark glow and long, quiet stretches to turn a two-hander into a study of two opposed philosophies trapped in one car. It suits viewers who like character-driven suspense, moody atmosphere and thrillers that value conversation as much as violence. Come for the premise's dread, stay for the nocturnal texture and the pressure between the men.
