David Leitch, a stuntman turned director, brings kinetic action chops to this sequel, in which the wisecracking mercenary Deadpool squares off against the powerful, time-traveling Cable to save a boy's life. It's an action-comedy that runs on rapid-fire jokes, fourth-wall breaks and bloody set pieces in roughly equal measure, aimed squarely at viewers who want their superhero fare irreverent and R-rated rather than earnest. Newcomers can follow the broad strokes, though the humor lands harder if you know the first film's tone. Best for those who enjoy self-aware genre parody and don't mind graphic violence played for laughs. Not the place to start if you prefer straight-faced heroics.
