About Despicable Me

Gru is a supervillain determined to prove he’s the greatest by stealing the Moon. To pull off his plan, he adopts three orphaned girls—Margo, Edith, and Agnes—intending to use them as part of his scheme. However, as Gru bonds with the girls, his cold, villainous exterior begins to melt.

Our take on Despicable Me

This 2010 animated comedy hands its story to a scheming supervillain whose grand plan to steal the Moon gets derailed by three orphaned girls he adopts as pawns. Predictably, the arrangement thaws him, and the film mines its warmth from the gap between Gru's cartoonish menace and the reluctant tenderness the children draw out. It's brisk, gag-heavy family entertainment built around a gruff antihero and a swarm of babbling minions who steal every scene. The animation is bright and the pace forgiving for younger viewers.
