About Elysium

In the year 2159, two classes of people exist: the very wealthy who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. Secretary Rhodes, a hard line government official, will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve the luxurious lifestyle of the citizens of Elysium. That doesn’t stop the people of Earth from trying to get in, by any means they can. When unlucky Max is backed into a corner, he agrees to take on a daunting mission that, if successful, will not only save his life, but could bring equality to these polarized worlds.

Our take on Elysium

Neill Blomkamp's 2013 science-fiction thriller stages inequality on a literal orbital divide. By 2159, the wealthy live on Elysium, a pristine artificial space station, while everyone else struggles on a ruined, overcrowded Earth, where Secretary Rhodes brutally enforces anti-immigration laws to protect that privilege. When luckless factory worker Max is cornered, he takes on a perilous mission that could save his own life and, if it succeeds, bring equality to the planet. Blomkamp fuses hard-edged action, grimy world-building and pointed social allegory about class and access. It suits viewers who like dystopian sci-fi with something to say, muscular set pieces and a grounded, dirt-under-the-nails vision of the future.
