Our take on Forgetting Sarah Marshall

In Nicholas Stoller's 2008 comedy, aspiring musician Peter Bretter is blindsided when actress Sarah Marshall dumps him for flashy rock star Aldous Snow. On a friend's advice he flees to a Hawaiian resort to clear his head, only to discover Sarah and her new boyfriend vacationing at the very same hotel, where he also meets a warm receptionist named Rachel. Blending raunchy laughs with real romantic ache, the film mines heartbreak for both awkward comedy and unexpected sweetness, giving its hangdog hero room to grow. It's a good fit for anyone who enjoys adult romantic comedies that are crude and tender in equal measure, with a bruised, likable center.
