Andrew Niccol's 1997 science-fiction thriller imagines a near future where destiny is written in DNA and the genetically imperfect are quietly shut out. Vincent, branded an "In-Valid," borrows the identity of a member of the genetic elite to chase an impossible dream: a place aboard a Gattaca space mission. It's a cool, cerebral film that trades action for tension, ideas and a striking retro-futurist look, asking how much of a person a test can really measure. Best for viewers who like thoughtful, character-driven science fiction and slow-burning suspense over spectacle. If you enjoy dystopias about identity, ambition and defying the odds, it lingers long afterward.
