Our take on Get Smart

Peter Segal's 2008 action-comedy sends the crime syndicate KAOS on the attack against the U.S. spy agency Control, blowing the covers of its field agents. Forced to improvise, the Chief promotes the eager but bumbling analyst Maxwell Smart to field work, pairing him with the capable Agent 99, whose cover still holds, to foil KAOS's world-domination scheme. It's a broad, gadget-happy spy spoof balancing pratfalls with genuine action beats. This suits viewers who want a light, escapist comedy that gently ribs the espionage genre without demanding much. If you're after an undemanding, good-natured romp with a mismatched duo and cartoonish villains, Get Smart delivers familiar, breezy fun.
