Our take on Guardians of the Galaxy
James Gunn's 2014 space adventure follows Peter Quill, abducted from Earth as a boy, who decades later becomes the target of a manhunt after stumbling onto a coveted orb pursued by Ronan the Accuser. It's action-adventure science fiction with a lighter, scrappier temperament than most cosmic epics, built around a mismatched band of outsiders forced together by circumstance. The pleasure here is texture and attitude: ragtag heroes, colorful far-flung worlds, and a sense of humor that undercuts the space-opera grandeur. Good for viewers who want big-screen sci-fi that doesn't take itself too seriously, and a solid entry point if you're wary of denser franchise films. Approachable and brisk.
