About I Am Number Four

A teenage fugitive with an incredible secret races to stay one step ahead of the mysterious forces seeking destroy him in this sci-fi action thriller. With three dead and one on the run, the race to find the elusive Number Four begins. Outwardly normal teen John Smith never gets too comfortable in the same identity, and along with his guardian, Henri, he is constantly moving from town to town. With each passing day, John gains a stronger grasp on his extraordinary new powers, and his bond to the beings that share his fantastic fate grows stronger.

Our take on I Am Number Four

D.J. Caruso directs this 2011 blend of science fiction, action and teen thriller. John Smith looks like an ordinary high-school student, but he carries an extraordinary secret and a target on his back: he is the fourth of a hunted group, and three before him are already dead. Forever moving from town to town with his guardian Henri, John finds his strange new powers growing stronger even as mysterious forces close in, determined to destroy him. Slickly made and pitched squarely at younger audiences, the film mixes chase-movie momentum with first-romance drama and hints of a larger mythology. Best for viewers who enjoy accessible YA sci-fi action.
