Our take on In Time
Andrew Niccol's 2011 science-fiction thriller imagines a near future where the aging gene has been switched off and time itself is currency: people stop aging at twenty-five, then must earn or spend minutes to stay alive. The wealthy hoard centuries while the poor scramble day to day. When a young man from the slums suddenly inherits a fortune of time, he becomes a target for the corrupt enforcers who police this economy. Niccol turns a sharp high-concept premise into a chase-driven allegory about inequality and mortality. It suits viewers who like ideas woven into their action and won't mind a message stated plainly rather than subtly.
