David Robert Mitchell's 2015 horror-mystery follows a young woman who, after a sexual encounter, is pursued by an unknown supernatural force that follows her relentlessly. The film builds dread from a simple, merciless rule: the threat is always walking toward her, taking the shape of anyone, unstoppable and slow. Mitchell trades gore for atmosphere, using patient framing and an unnerving synth score to turn ordinary suburban spaces into places of quiet menace. The premise doubles as a haunting metaphor about intimacy, contagion and vulnerability.
