Our take on Jackie Brown
Quentin Tarantino trades pulp fireworks for something patient and grown-up here, following a flight attendant who's smuggling cash for a gunrunner and finds herself squeezed between the police and her dangerous boss. With a bail bondsman's quiet help, she plots to walk away with the money herself. It's a crime thriller built on double-crosses and slow-burning tension rather than shootouts, marked by long conversations, soulful music and characters allowed to breathe. Viewers who love Tarantino's dialogue but want a mellower, more character-driven register than his flashier work will find plenty to savor. Best for those who enjoy heist-style scheming, moral gray zones and 1990s cool.
