Garth Davis's 2016 drama follows a five-year-old Indian boy who becomes lost on the streets of Calcutta, thousands of kilometers from home. He survives many hardships before being adopted by a couple in Australia, and twenty-five years later sets out to find the family he lost. It's an emotionally direct story of memory, belonging and identity that spans continents and decades, patient in its build toward that long search. It suits viewers open to a heartfelt, humane drama willing to earn its feeling rather than rush it. Those wary of sincere, tear-adjacent storytelling may find it earnest, but anyone moved by real journeys of separation and reunion will connect.
