About Looper

In the year 2044, time travel has not yet been invented but in 30 years it will have been. When the mob wants to get rid of someone, they will send their target into the past where a looper, a hired gun, like Joe is waiting to mop up. Joe is getting rich and life is good until the day the mob decides to close the loop, sending back Joe's future self for assassination.

Our take on Looper

Rian Johnson's 2012 sci-fi thriller builds its premise on a cold-blooded piece of logic: in 2044, the mob disposes of victims by sending them back in time to hired killers called loopers, who collect the body and the payoff. Joe lives comfortably by this arrangement until his own future self is sent back for him to kill. Johnson uses time travel less as spectacle than as a moral trap, threading action through questions of consequence and choice. It suits viewers who like genre filmmaking with a thoughtful spine, and who don't mind a story that turns knottier and more intimate as it goes.
