Our take on Me Before You
Thea Sharrock's 2016 romantic drama follows Lou Clark, a directionless twenty-six-year-old from the English countryside who takes a job at the local castle caring for Will Traynor, a wealthy young banker left in a wheelchair by an accident two years earlier. Once adventurous and now withdrawn, Will has all but given up until Lou sets out to persuade him that life is still worth living. The film leans on the pair's prickly, warming chemistry and the class gap between them, building toward difficult emotional questions. It suits viewers who welcome earnest, tearful romance and character-driven feeling. Those wary of sentiment or sensitive to its subject may find it heavy going.
