Duncan Jones builds his 2009 debut around a single premise: Sam Bell, weeks from finishing a three-year contract, works alone at a Moon-based facility with only the computer GERTY for company. When an accident disturbs his routine, isolation curdles into something stranger and more unsettling. This is patient, character-driven science fiction that trades spectacle for mood, ideas and quiet dread. Anyone drawn to thoughtful, contained storytelling and the psychology of solitude will find it rewarding; viewers wanting action or fast pacing may not. It suits a reflective evening and a willingness to sit with unease rather than easy answers, thinking about what it means to be replaceable.
