Jon M. Chu's 2016 sequel reunites the Four Horsemen, the magician-thieves who bewildered the FBI and won over the public a year earlier. Their comeback quickly goes wrong when a new adversary blackmails them into staging their riskiest heist yet. As a crime thriller, it thrives on sleight-of-hand set pieces, misdirection and twist-upon-twist plotting, favoring flashy spectacle over grounded logic. It suits viewers who enjoyed the first film's blend of stage magic and caper energy and who are happy to go along with elaborate, improbable schemes for the fun of being fooled. If you want a slick, fast, trick-driven ride rather than airtight plausibility, it delivers.
