Our take on Office Space
Mike Judge's 1999 comedy is a deadpan takedown of open-plan office life. A burnt-out white-collar worker tries hypnotherapy and slides into a blissful state of not caring, prompting him to ignore his soul-crushing employer, live by his own rules, and cook up a hapless plan to embezzle from the company. Judge builds the humor out of exactly the small indignities anyone with a cubicle job will recognize: broken printers, passive-aggressive memos, dreaded status meetings. Dry, quotable, and unhurried, it never chases big laughs, trusting recognition to do the work. It suits viewers who like understated satire over slapstick, and anyone who has ever fantasized about walking out of a job.
