Oren Peli's 2007 horror film strips the haunted-house story down to essentials: a young middle-class couple moves into an ordinary suburban home and grows increasingly unsettled by a nocturnal presence that may or may not be demonic. Shot in a found-footage style built around static bedroom cameras, it trades gore and jump-scare excess for slow-building dread, long held shots, and the creeping sense that something is watching while everyone sleeps. It rewards patient viewers who like atmosphere and suggestion over spectacle, and it's ideal for a dark room and low volume. Those who need constant action or elaborate effects may find it too spare, but as minimalist mystery-horror it's genuinely unnerving.
