Our take on Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest

Gore Verbinski's 2006 adventure sends Captain Jack Sparrow scrambling to settle a blood debt: his soul is owed to Davy Jones, the ghastly ruler of the ocean depths, and escaping eternal servitude aboard the Flying Dutchman means tracking down Jones's still-beating heart. Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann are pulled back into the chase, dodging execution for helping a pirate along the way. Verbinski leans into fantasy spectacle, seafaring peril and swashbuckling humor, building a big, busy pirate epic. It's ideal for viewers who want large-scale action-adventure with a supernatural streak and plenty of momentum. Sprawling and effects-heavy, it delivers exactly the rollicking blockbuster ride it promises.
