About Road to Perdition

Mike Sullivan works as a hit man for crime boss John Rooney. Sullivan views Rooney as a father figure, however after his son is witness to a killing, Mike Sullivan finds himself on the run in attempt to save the life of his son and at the same time looking for revenge on those who wronged him.

Sam Mendes's 2002 crime drama follows Mike Sullivan, a hit man for crime boss John Rooney, whom he regards as a father figure. When his young son witnesses a killing, Sullivan finds himself on the run, trying to save his boy's life while seeking revenge on those who wronged him. Mendes shapes a somber, elegiac gangster tale about fathers and sons, loyalty and the sins passed between generations. Its measured pace and painterly compositions favor mood and moral weight over shootouts. It suits viewers drawn to restrained, melancholy crime cinema, more interested in the cost of violence and the bond between a hardened man and his child than in bombast or spectacle.
