Our take on Robin Hood
Ridley Scott's 2010 take on the Robin Hood legend reaches back before the outlaw myth, following a soldier named Robin who, after the dying Robert of Loxley entrusts him with a sword, travels to Nottingham to return it and ends up assuming the dead man's identity. There he grows close to the widowed Marion and draws the enmity of the local sheriff and King John's ruthless henchman Godfrey. Blending action, drama and historical texture, Scott favors grit, muddy medieval realism and political intrigue over swashbuckling romance. It suits viewers who prefer their legends weighty and earthbound, curious about how an ordinary man might become an enduring folk hero.
