About RoboCop

In a violent, near-apocalyptic Detroit, evil corporation Omni Consumer Products wins a contract from the city government to privatize the police force. To test their crime-eradicating cyborgs, the company leads street cop Alex Murphy into an armed confrontation with crime lord Boddicker so they can use his body to support their untested RoboCop prototype. But when RoboCop learns of the company's nefarious plans, he turns on his masters.

Our take on RoboCop

Paul Verhoeven's 1987 action science-fiction unfolds in a violent, near-apocalyptic Detroit where the corporation Omni Consumer Products wins a contract to privatise the police. To test their crime-fighting cyborgs, they steer officer Alex Murphy into a deadly confrontation and use his body to build their untested RoboCop prototype, only for the machine to turn on its makers once it uncovers their schemes. Verhoeven wraps brutal action in sharp satire of corporate greed, media culture and privatised justice. It suits viewers who like their science fiction bloody, ironic and smarter than it first appears. If you enjoy genre films that bite as well as bang, RoboCop still lands hard.
