Our take on Rocky Balboa
Sylvester Stallone writes, directs and stars in this 2006 drama that gives the aging fighter a graceful last round. When a virtual bout suggests he could still beat the reigning champion, Rocky comes out of retirement for a ten-round exhibition against a younger, faster opponent, over the doubts of his son and friends. Less a boxing spectacle than a meditation on grief, purpose and refusing to fade quietly, it leans on the character's weathered decency rather than flashy fights. Longtime followers of the saga get the most emotionally resonant payoff, but it also works as a standalone story about staying in the ring life keeps you in. A dignified, unexpectedly moving farewell.
