Our take on Scream 2

Wes Craven's 1997 sequel returns to the self-aware slasher formula two years after the Woodsboro killings. Sidney Prescott is trying to settle into college life when someone in the Ghostface costume begins a fresh string of murders, dragging her back into a game she hoped was over. As a horror-mystery, it keeps the whodunit hook central while nodding knowingly at the rules of sequels themselves. Craven balances suspense set pieces with a wink at the genre's conventions, so the fun is guessing the killer as much as flinching at the scares. Best for slasher fans and anyone who enjoyed the first film's mix of tension and irony.
