About Shaun of the Dead

Shaun lives a supremely uneventful life, which revolves around his girlfriend, his mother, and, above all, his local pub. This gentle routine is threatened when the dead return to life and make strenuous attempts to snack on ordinary Londoners.

Our take on Shaun of the Dead

Edgar Wright's 2004 horror-comedy drops a zombie apocalypse into the drizzly ordinariness of North London, where a directionless slacker must finally rouse himself when the dead start snacking on the living. The joke is that Shaun barely notices the outbreak at first, his life already so routine that undead shuffling blends into the morning commute. Wright's whip-fast editing and affection for his hapless characters make the carnage funny and, surprisingly, a little moving. It suits viewers who like their horror laced with wit and their comedies with real bite, and who appreciate a film that mocks its genre while clearly loving it. Gore, laughs and heart in equal measure.
