Night Shyamalan turns an alien-invasion premise into an intimate chamber piece: a farming family discovers unexplained crop circles in their fields, and dread gathers slowly around the house rather than across the skies. Shyamalan's real subject is faith and grief, using the science-fiction threat as a pressure that forces the family to confront what they believe. Patient, atmospheric, and built on suggestion more than spectacle, it rewards viewers who like their horror quiet and their scares earned through mood.
