Our take on Spider-Man: Homecoming

Jon Watts's 2017 superhero adventure picks up after Captain America: Civil War, following Peter Parker as he juggles high-school life in Queens with his double identity as Spider-Man. Eager to prove himself to his mentor Tony Stark, Peter is impatient for bigger missions, until a grounded new threat, the Vulture, forces him to grow up faster than he expected. Blending action, adventure and science-fiction, the film leans into the awkwardness and enthusiasm of being a teenage hero rather than world-ending stakes. It suits viewers who want their comic-book action lighter, funnier and more personal, and anyone drawn to a coming-of-age story wearing a costume.
