Our take on Sunshine

Danny Boyle's 2007 science-fiction thriller follows a second crew of astronauts sent to reignite a dying sun, seven years after the first mission failed and humanity faced freezing extinction. Boyle treats the premise with awe and dread in equal measure, building a claustrophobic voyage where the sun itself becomes a hypnotic, terrifying presence. The film's first two-thirds are a taut meditation on sacrifice and the psychology of people carrying an entire species' survival; its final act shifts into stranger, more divisive territory. Best suited to viewers who value atmosphere, ideas and striking imagery over airtight plotting. If you like cerebral space cinema with a pulse, Sunshine rewards attention.
