Our take on Terminator Salvation
McG's 2009 entry moves the saga into a post-apocalyptic 2018, where a grown John Connor must lead humanity's resistance against increasingly dominant militaristic machines. When the mysterious Marcus Wright appears, his very existence complicates the mission: Connor cannot tell whether he came from the future or the past, or whether he is ally or threat. Trading the earlier films' chases for full-scale war, it's action science fiction built on spectacle, grim atmosphere and questions of what makes someone human. Fans of the franchise and large-scale machine warfare will find plenty to chew on; newcomers wanting the tight tension of the originals may feel it's a different beast. Best for series loyalists and action appetites.
