About The Black Phone

Finney Blake, a shy but clever 13-year-old boy, is abducted by a sadistic killer and trapped in a soundproof basement where screaming is of little use. When a disconnected phone on the wall begins to ring, Finney discovers that he can hear the voices of the killer’s previous victims. And they are dead set on making sure that what happened to them doesn’t happen to Finney.

Scott Derrickson's 2022 horror thriller follows Finney Blake, a shy but clever thirteen-year-old abducted by a sadistic killer and trapped in a soundproof basement where screaming does no good. When a disconnected phone on the wall starts to ring, Finney finds he can hear the voices of the killer's previous victims, who are determined that what happened to them won't happen to him. It's a tense, contained thriller that leans on dread and a resourceful young protagonist rather than gore. It suits viewers who like their horror suspenseful and character-driven, with a supernatural hook. Those needing constant carnage may want more, but the claustrophobic setup delivers real tension.
