Our take on The Bourne Supremacy

Paul Greengrass takes over this 2004 action-thriller, and his restless, handheld style suits Bourne's paranoia perfectly. A CIA operation to buy classified Russian documents is sabotaged by a rival agent, who then surfaces in the quiet seaside town where Bourne and Marie have been hiding. Forced from the fragile peace he built, Bourne slips back into the reflexes of a trained assassin simply to stay alive. The film runs lean and propulsive, favoring kinetic chases and moral weight over exposition. It rewards viewers who want a grounded, adult spy thriller with real emotional stakes, and it sets the template the series would follow.
