Our take on The Dark Knight
Nolan's 2008 crime epic in cape and cowl pits Batman against Heath Ledger's anarchic Joker, an agent of pure chaos who turns Gotham — and the hero's morality — inside out. Grand, grim and built like a heist thriller, it elevated the comic-book film into serious drama. If its moral chaos and operatic stakes gripped you, its sequel The Dark Knight Rises continues the saga, and grounded crime thrillers share its appetite for ethical dilemmas under pressure.
