Our take on The Descent

Neil Marshall's 2005 horror sends a group of women on a caving expedition in the Appalachian Mountains, a year after one of them, Sarah, suffers a devastating personal loss. When a rockfall seals the passage behind them, the trip curdles into a fight for survival deep underground, and the darkness turns out to hide savage, blind creatures that hunt by sound. As claustrophobia sets in and old resentments surface, the women must battle both the predators and their own fraying trust. Marshall wrings dread from tight spaces, total blackness and rising panic. Strong stuff for horror fans who want a lean, brutal, genuinely tense survival nightmare.
