About The Hunt for Red October
A new technologically-superior Soviet nuclear sub, the Red October, is heading for the U.S. coast under the command of Captain Marko Ramius. The American government thinks Ramius is planning to attack. Lone CIA analyst Jack Ryan has a different idea: he thinks Ramius is planning to defect, but he has only a few hours to find him and prove it - because the entire Russian naval and air commands are trying to find Ramius, too. The hunt is on!

Our take on The Hunt for Red October
John McTiernan's 1990 action-thriller sets a taut game of nerve beneath the sea. Captain Marko Ramius takes the Red October, a new and technologically superior Soviet nuclear submarine, toward the American coast, and Washington fears an attack. CIA analyst Jack Ryan alone suspects the truth: Ramius means to defect, and Ryan has only hours to find him and prove it before the entire Soviet fleet hunts the sub down. McTiernan builds suspense through strategy, deduction and submarine cat-and-mouse rather than open combat. It rewards viewers who like intelligent, dialogue-rich Cold War thrillers and procedural tension; those craving nonstop action may find its pacing deliberate.
