Our take on The Others

Alejandro Amenábar's 2001 horror-mystery is a masterclass in restraint, unfolding almost entirely inside a shadowed old house. Grace keeps the rooms dark because her two children, Anne and Nicholas, suffer a rare sensitivity to light, but as strange events and disturbing visions mount, she comes to fear the house is haunted and fights to protect them at any cost. Amenábar builds dread through silence, creaking corners and a mounting sense of the uncanny rather than gore, culminating in a story that lingers on grief and denial. It's ideal for viewers who prize atmosphere, slow-burn tension and a controlled, elegant ghost story over jump scares and spectacle.
