Our take on The Terminator
James Cameron's 1984 thriller sends a cyborg assassin back from a machine-ruled future to 1984, tasked with killing Sarah Connor before her unborn son can lead the human resistance. A lone soldier is dispatched to protect her, and the film becomes a relentless chase between an almost indestructible hunter and two people simply trying to survive the night. Lean, mechanical and menacing, it fuses action, science-fiction and thriller into a story about fate, technology and endurance. The pacing rarely lets up, and the low-budget grit gives it a hard edge. It suits viewers who like their science-fiction tense and stripped down, and anyone curious about a genre landmark.
