Our take on The Town

Ben Affleck directs and headlines this 2010 crime drama about Doug MacRay, a career thief sharper than his crew and quietly desperate to leave the life behind. A bank job goes sideways when the group kidnaps a branch manager; assigned to keep tabs on her, Doug finds their relationship deepening—an entanglement that risks exposing him and his crew to the FBI agent closing in. The film grounds its heist tension in a specific working-class milieu and the pull between loyalty and escape. It suits viewers who like character-driven thrillers where the emotional stakes matter as much as the getaways, and anyone drawn to morally tangled crime stories.
