Our take on The Usual Suspects
Bryan Singer's 1995 crime thriller is built around a single interrogation, as small-time crook Verbal Kint spins the legend of an almost mythic crime lord named Keyser Soze for a pair of federal agents. What begins as the aftermath of a disastrous harbor heist becomes a riddle about who is telling the truth and why. Puzzle-box in structure and patient in its reveals, it rewards viewers who enjoy piecing a story together from unreliable fragments rather than watching action unfold. If you like twisty, dialogue-driven crime dramas where the telling matters as much as the crime, this belongs high on your list.
