Our take on Total Recall

Len Wiseman's 2012 remake reworks the memory-implant premise into a sleek, hard-edged chase. Factory worker Doug Quaid pays for a virtual vacation with false memories of espionage, but when the procedure malfunctions he's suddenly hunted by police, unsure which of his memories are even real. Teaming with a rebel fighter, he races to stop the sinister Chancellor Cohaagen while the question of his own identity gnaws at everything. It's a science-fiction action thriller that trades philosophical unease for velocity and glossy future-noir design. A solid choice if you want propulsive genre spectacle and don't mind that the ideas take a back seat to the pursuit.
