About Troy

In year 1250 B.C. during the late Bronze age, two emerging nations begin to clash. Paris, the Trojan prince, convinces Helen, Queen of Sparta, to leave her husband Menelaus, and sail with him back to Troy. After Menelaus finds out that his wife was taken by the Trojans, he asks his brother Agamemnon to help him get her back. Agamemnon sees this as an opportunity for power. They set off with 1,000 ships holding 50,000 Greeks to Troy.

Our take on Troy

Wolfgang Petersen's 2004 epic retells the siege of Troy as a clash of nations and egos. When the Trojan prince Paris persuades Helen, Queen of Sparta, to leave her husband Menelaus and sail home with him, the insult draws Menelaus's brother Agamemnon into a war he treats as a chance to expand his power. A fleet of a thousand ships and fifty thousand Greeks crosses the sea to besiege the city. Grand in scale and grounded in ancient rivalry rather than the supernatural, it favors large-scale battle spectacle and the pull of pride and honor. Well suited to viewers who enjoy historical war epics and stories drawn from Bronze Age legend.
