Andy Serkis takes the reins for this 2021 action adventure, in which the alien symbiote, now sharing reporter Eddie Brock's body, squares off against a new threat: Carnage, the darker alter ego of serial killer Cletus Kasady. The tone leans loose and playful, treating the odd-couple dynamic between man and symbiote as much comedy as menace, then setting it against a genuinely nasty villain. It moves quickly and doesn't overstay its welcome. Best suited to viewers who want their comic-book action lively and irreverent rather than solemn, and who enjoyed the first outing's bickering-partners energy. Come for the mayhem, stay for the strange domestic bond at its core.
