About Venom

Our take on Venom

Ruben Fleischer's 2018 comic-book film follows investigative journalist Eddie Brock, who is trying to rebuild his career after a scandal when he accidentally becomes the host of Venom, a violent and immensely powerful alien symbiote. Sharing his body with a snarling, hungry passenger, Eddie has to learn to control his new abilities while a shadowy organization hunts a symbiote of its own. The film plays its dark premise with a streak of odd humor, leaning into the bickering odd-couple dynamic between man and creature. Best for viewers who want their superhero action loud, a little unhinged and more playful than solemn, and who don't mind a rough, monstrous edge.
