Patty Jenkins's 2020 sequel sends Wonder Woman into a global conflict when a botched store robbery draws her toward a powerful, mysterious ancient force that threatens to strip away her powers. This action-adventure fantasy blends superhero spectacle with a period-flavored setting and a story about desire, cost and consequence. It works best for viewers who want colorful, large-scale comic-book adventure and an idealistic heroine tested from within as much as by any villain. Expect big set pieces and an earnest, hopeful tone rather than gritty realism. If you enjoyed Jenkins's first outing with the character and want more of that sincerity, this follow-up continues her journey.
