Six years before Saul Goodman meets Walter White. We meet him when the man who will become Saul Goodman is known as Jimmy McGill, a small-time lawyer searching for his destiny, and, more immediately, hustling to make ends meet. Working alongside, and, often, against Jimmy, is “fixer” Mike Ehrmantraut. The series tracks Jimmy’s transformation into Saul Goodman, the man who puts “criminal” in “criminal lawyer".

Our take on Better Call Saul

The Breaking Bad prequel turns out to be its equal: the slow, painful transformation of well-meaning hustler Jimmy McGill into morally bankrupt lawyer Saul Goodman, shadowed by fixer Mike Ehrmantraut. Patient, beautifully shot and quietly tragic, it's character study as crime saga. If its measured tension and moral erosion gripped you, Breaking Bad is the obvious next step, and Fargo shares its blackly comic, slow-burn descent into crime.
